Summerlin Half Marathon
4.12.15

The funny thing about this race was that I didn’t even plan on running it! I just so happened to be back home in Las Vegas at the time. It was spontaneous which was probably a good thing because I didn’t have time to overthink it. I hadn’t run for about two weeks prior so I was a little scared I didn’t train. Thankfully my dad stuck with me the whole way and got me through it. The run took place in Summerlin which is a suburb of Las Vegas. I grew up here! I literally got to run past my high school, streets I grew up on, friend’s houses, mountains I hiked, etc. It was so sentimental and meant a lot to me to run my first half marathon here. I felt pretty good once I warmed up, it was a really long time running though! The amount of miles is probably the biggest thing that messes with you mentally. Knowing you already ran 7 and have 7 more is crazy. Once I hit 10 (which is the furthest I’ve ever ran prior), I knew I could do it even if that meant I still practically had a 5k to go! I was so happy to get my time under 2 hours even if it was only by 30 seconds. For someone who always stuck to 5ks (3.1 miles) and said she’d never add 10 more for a half, just proves you can do anything you put your mind to!
